We are looking for an enthusiastic engineer to become the Lead Utilities Technician, supporting operations, maintenance, commissioning, and start of our new GMP manufacturing facility. In this role, based in beautiful Vancouver, you will work closely with manufacturing operations, process engineering, quality and other technical operations functions. You will act as the Chief Boiler Engineer, as defined by Technical Safety BC, for the GMP manufacturing facility and will be the main point of contact with Technical Safety BC, in terms of permit and compliance to requirements.
How you might spend your days
- Providing technical support as the subject matter expert for boilers and process vessels in compliance with the Technical Safety BC
- Supporting the day to day safe and reliable operations of utilities systems such as boilers, chillers, air handling units, water for injection, compressed air, clean gasses, etc.
- Executing routine maintenance or planned repair activities for utilities equipment through CMMS
- Acting as lead for utilities systems major maintenance and plant shutdown activities, ensuring a smooth and safe start-up of systems back to normal operation
- Providing technical support, troubleshooting, and problem-solving solutions for utilities systems interfacing with manufacturing process and quality control equipment to support efficient operations
- Providing recommendations for improvements to utilities equipment and base building equipment and processes
- Ensuring utility technicians have the appropriate knowledge, experience, and training required to operate safely and efficiently
- May be asked to perform shift work based on company business needs and to ensure minimal downtime of facilities

- You have 6+ years of progressive experience in a manufacturing plant operation (steam plant, production, maintenance, quality, safety, and environmental compliance) or similar industry
- You have a valid Technical Safety BC Class IV Power Engineering certificate or higher
- You have significant knowledge and experience on base building equipments such as Boiler, Chiller, AHU, and Gases. Having experience in GMP clean utilities (e.g. Water for Injection, Clean Compressed air, etc.) would be desirable
- You are mechanically inclined and able to perform and supervise routine maintenance and repair tasks
- You have a strong operational acumen with experience in risk management, and can prioritize science and engineering approaches to prevent process downtime
What we offer
AbCellera’s hiring range for this role is CAD $77,800 - $98,000 annually, commensurate with your education and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to base salary, we offer equity, annual bonus dependent on team and company performance, and a 6% (non-match) RRSP contribution.
