Each of us cares about someone who will need medicines. That’s why our vision is to repeatedly beat the odds to deliver breakthrough medicines to patients that need them. We pursue truth and scientific rigour and have the courage to work at the edge of the unknown.

We are looking for a motivated and talented Research Assistant with hands-on Molecular Biology experience to join our Protein Science team based in Sydney, Australia. In this role, you will generate high quality DNA for the production of monoclonal antibodies in mammalian cells, and will be responsible for delivering DNA and maintaining appropriate stocks in a timely manner. You will also support the Antibody Production team as needed by maintaining mammalian cells in culture, performing DNA transfections, purifying antibodies, and contributing to antibody developability assessment activities.

How you might spend your days

  • Purifying high quality DNA from bacteria at different scales and throughputs to support in-house antibody production activities
  • Maintaining and transforming bacteria to produce more DNA, including preparation of competent cells and maintaining regular stocks
  • Confirming DNA quality by Sanger sequencing, ensuring all samples are correct prior to hand-off
  • Completing high quality experimental write-ups using our electronic notebook system
  • Managing inventory of routine consumables and maintaining instruments related to the role
  • Working with your teammates to coordinate experiments to support project priorities
  • Maintaining and transfecting mammalian cells with purified DNA, including adherent and suspension cells
  • Performing biophysical analysis for developability assessment of antibodies

We'd love to hear from you if

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology or a related field with some hands-on lab experience in an academic or industry setting
  • You have experience with molecular biology techniques including DNA purification techniques at different scales (from minipreps to maxipreps), bacterial DNA transformation, and cloning
  • You have experience with mammalian cell culture, including cultivating suspension or adherent cell lines and DNA transfection
  • You are comfortable with performing routine laboratory experiments whilst maintaining high standards of quality
  • You thrive in a collaborative team setting, and can comfortably work independently within a frequently changing environment

What we offer

In addition to base salary and 12.5% superannuation, we offer equity and annual bonus dependent on team and company performance. You will have an AUD $1,500 annual Active Lifestyle Allowance, annual leave, and professional development opportunities. Scientific and technical mentorship is a priority. And you’ll find a strong sense of community and connections across AbCellera through our work, clubs, and socials.

About AbCellera

Creating medicines is the most important work we can do.

We are a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on discovering and developing antibody-based medicines in the areas of endocrinology, women’s health, immunology, and oncology. We have built a platform for advancing antibody drug programs from target to clinic, and we are using it to build our internal pipeline.

Today, our pipeline includes two drug candidates in clinical development, two preclinical development candidates (DCs) in Investigational New Drug (IND)-enabling activities, and more than 20 active discovery programs across multiple modalities and indications.

We believe that when tenacious people share a vision and work together, they can truly have a positive impact. That’s why we hire for character and intelligence, not just for CVs or experience.

We look for people with drive and energy. People we trust. People who need to know their days are being well spent. That their work really matters. In the end, our success will be measured by the impact of our medicines.
